Nicolas Maduro who was previously the Vice President of Venezuela and the Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Hugo Chávez has been sworn in as Venezuelan president on Friday (19th April 2013), just hours after election officials agreed to carry out the recounting of vote results which opponents hoped could lead to its being overturned. Mr Maduro has elected after the death of his mentor Hugo Chavez who died of cancer in March after fourteen years in office. He beat Henrique Capriles Radonski, who refused to recognize the results and called for a recount, claiming that he was the true winner.
