How to Prepare for SBI PO Exam

Friends, as the date of SBI PO Exam (28-04-2013) is getting closer its time to take the preparation seriously. Here are some useful tips to help your preparation.

SBI PO Preparation Plan

The time for Objective Section is very crucial for you. They have allotted 120 minutes for 200 questions. That means on average you will get only 36 seconds per question. Obviously its not enough to answer Reasoning and Data Interpretation problems. So, you should MANAGE time among the given 4 sections. For a clear understanding read our previous post on Time management techniques for SBI PO Exam here. And one more important point you should keep in mind is merely having the basic idea of the concept wont help you during the exam. Even a 7th grade student too can solve the paper if you give enough time to him. What matters is the TIME taken to solve the given problems. So don't stop your preparation at anytime. Get good grip on basics and later you should practice thoroughly till the date of the exam. Try to learn new shortcut techniques and think on how to implement them for the given problem to reduce the time.

Time management Tips for IBPS PO Exam

  1. Give estimate answers: Never try to get the exact answer if an estimated answer is sufficient.
For Example:If a question has following options:
    a) 92.345
    b) 86.254
    c) 89.236
    d) 98.245
    e) 87.365
and while solving you reached an answer as 98 then stop there itself and mark option ‘D’ as your answer. don’t further solve it to get the exact answer which will be 98.245
  2. Solve easy questions first: Always solve easy questions first and if time is left then go for hard ones.
  3. Don’t get stuck on one question: If you get stuck on any question. do not waste your time in solving that question. leave that question and solve next question. you can solve that question later if time is left.
  4. Fill OMR sheet at last half an hour: I have seen candidates filling the circles in OMR sheet as soon as they solve a question. this wastes a lot of time. Instead candidates must focus on solving questions first and should fill the OMR sheet half an hour before the end of test. but candidates should strictly start filling sheet when half an hour is left and should not delay it further. any more delay in filling OMR sheet and you might fall short of time to fill the OMR sheet.
  5. Learn some short tricks: Short Cut methods turnout to be very handy in IBPS PO Exam. as they greatly increase your calculation speed which saves a lot of time. Learn Short Tricks Here
  6. Learn multiplication tables, squares and cubes: Learn multiplication tables up to 20. squares up to 25 and cubes up to 12. Learning them will save a lot of time during the test. you will be able to solve some questions verbally without even writing a single step.
  7. Use elimination technique: Use elimination Technique to eliminate options. some times it is possible to guess that “this option cannot be the answer”. for such question try to find answers from the rest of the options using estimation method. Read Complete guide on how to intelligently guess the answer if you don’t know the exact answer.Read: Score high marks in IBPS Exam even if you don’t know the answer
  8. Be prepared with your stationery: Many candidates take it very lightly, but it can prove very costly during the exam. always keep your pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener etc. ready before the exam. so that you do not waste time in sharpening your pencil or asking for it during exam.
