INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
  • The United States on Saturday offered to host a meeting with Southeast Asian defense ministers in Hawaii next year, stepping up its efforts to counter growing Chinese influence in the region.
  • More than 1,000 people were killed in violence in Iraq in May, making it the deadliest month since the sectarian slaughter of 2006-07, the United Nations said on Saturday, as fears mounted of a return to civil war.
  • Pakistan Indus Water Commission team visits J&K to inspect projects being undertaken by India over Indus basin rivers.
